“The Reef Theatre Ensemble” – Michael AW

- Limited Edition print 21” (h) x 31” (w)

This is a special release archival print feature eight fish portraits from one of the most beautiful book of the sea –“Beneath North SulaweSea”. Of the 1000 limited edition release, there are only 150 pieces remaining.  Printed using revolutionary Staccato screening technology, this print reveals stunning details in explosive colour.  Staccato is the high definition digital process for high quality prints.  Conventional fine art prints utilizes round dots and screen angles. Staccato printing utilizes random dot placement and various dot sizes, thus allowing a closer look and feel of analog photograph. The result is smoother tones, finer details, elimination of moirés, and a 15% wider color gamut. The fishes literally come alive in this fine art print - you have to see it to appreciate the quality. Each print is numbered and autographed.

 What is staccato screening?
I
n the early 1990's, an innovative method to applying dots to paper began to make waves in the printing industry. Known as stochastic screening, this new technology promised to break through the limitations of halftone screening and deliver finer detail, more vibrant colour as well as the elimination of moire patterns and rosettes. Unfortunately, stochastic screening was ahead of it's time. It's random nature and the analog environment of the time made this process difficult to proof, plate and print which plagued the technology with unreliable and inconsistent results.

Years later, computer-to-plate technology revolutionized the printing industry, providing accuracy and control of imaging previously thought impossible. This cleared the way for Creo, one of the leaders in print imaging technology to start development of its own advanced version of stochastic screening: Staccato.

Staccato second-order screening unites the benefits of stochastic screening with Creo SQUAREspot thermal imaging technology to provide consistent, proofable and repeatable printing of process images that appear virtually continuous tone, with ultra-smooth gradients, explosive colour, and detail unrivaled by any other technology.
